Tip-on-Tip SPE for Extraction of Hormones from Saliva

Automation Compatibility: Hamilton Robotics

Hormone analysis in blood and serum has been used to diagnose various diseases and even indicate early signs of a health decline. Saliva can be collected in relatively large amounts (mL) without any invasive measures taken, making it the perfect candidate for clinically relevant testing. Nine hormones were evaluated in pooled neat saliva with a Tip-on-Tip SPE technique (ToT SPE Patent No.: US 11,567,067) with Supel™ Swift HLB (from MilliporeSigma). Levels were calculated at part-per-trillion levels with most average extraction recoveries greater than 85%.

Supel™ Swift HLB from Millipore Sigma is a proprietary and patent pending copolymer having both hydrophilic and lipophilic functional groups. The sorbent’s dual polarity nature makes it ideal for extracting a broad range of compounds from aqueous matrices, and is an appropriate choice in applications for food & environmental samples as well as biological samples such as urine, serum and plasma. The hydrophilic and lipophilic balance (HLB) property of the polymer material enables the retention of a wide range of compounds having a wide range of polarities and Log P values.
