SOFT 2023 Poster Presentation

DPX will be back at the Society of Forensic Toxicology Conference. We’re excited to release the abstract for our upcoming poster presentation introducing a new Dispersive Pipette Xtraction method with HLB sorbent chemistry.

The HLB sorbent chemistry demonstrated in this application utilizes  Supel™ Swift HLB within XTR tips for an automated INTip extraction. Supel™ Swift HLB is a proprietary and patent pending copolymer having both hydrophilic and lipophilic functional groups from Millipore Sigma.

Supel™ Swift HLB’s dual polarity nature makes it ideal for extracting a broad range of compounds from aqueous matrices, and is an appropriate choice in applications for food & environmental samples as well as biological samples such as urine, serum and plasma. The hydrophilic and lipophilic balance (HLB) property of the polymer material enables the retention of a wide range of compounds having a wide range of polarities and Log P values.

SOFT Poster: A non-evaporative HLB dispersive pipette extraction (DPX) for sensitive analysis of therapeutic and abused drugs in urine

Abstract:

Various extraction methods for drugs of abuse in urine have proven to be successful, including the use of HLB (hydrophilic–lipophilic balance) resin in traditional solid phase extraction. The HLB sorbent is extremely versatile in analyte binding because of the co-polymer phase containing both hydrophilic and lipophilic functional groups. In this poster we demonstrate a non-evaporative and highly sensitive extraction method for drugs of abuse in urine; the method gives a total of 10x dilution factor. With this new approach,  µXTR (micro-elution XTRaction) tips containing 3 mg of Supel™ Swift HLB is utilized to extract 42 compounds across a large range of polarities. The method uses 50 µL of urine for minimal sample volume and 96 samples can be extracted in 15 minutes.
